As I reflect on my journey as an aspiring jazz musician thus far—from my days as a little eighth grade kid playing in the Ludington high school jazz ensemble to being in the Michigan All State High School Jazz Ensemble to now being privileged to be a member of one of the oldest collegiate jazz ensembles in the nation: The Mississippians—I am grateful that this genre of music has led to nonpareil musical fulfillment, once in a lifetime performance opportunities, and a pure sense of joy and determination that comes in pursuit of this craft.
Just as my jazz journey begins its ten year anniversary (wow!), I’m ecstatic to announce that jazz is opening up another world of experiences for me and my bandmates again. This is the third year that I am the guitarist for the Mississippians— the University of Mississippi’s top jazz ensemble under the direction of Dr. Michael Worthy.
I am very honored to be part of this awesome group and to have the opportunity to play in France and Italy in the summer of 2018- in particular, at the Jazz à Juan Festival in Juan les Pins, France and the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy—some of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world. (!) However, all of this would not be possible without your support. We have launched a UM Foundation Ignite Ole Miss campaign to raise funds to help my bandmates and I get to Europe. To donate, you can visit the Ignite Ole Miss campaign page and in addition, please watch our video detailing what this great experience would mean to us, all of which I have linked here: https://ignite.olemiss.edu/jazz . Thank you all for your generosity, interest, and kindness—and to the fans in France and Italy—we hope to see you soon! ✌🏽😎 🎶#mississippimusic #jazz #mississippiansjazz #olemiss #igniteolemiss #europeantour #umbriajazz #jazzajuan #france #italy
