In celebration of a definitive

In celebration of a definitive stage in the expansion of the Elementary Level, little Angels imprinted their thumbprints and signed their names on cinder blocks to be used during the construction of the new Montessori Level building. The bricks will be permanently cemented into place during the "topping out" ceremony for the building today, Tuesday, December 12th, at 2:00 p.m. #iwacc

Middle Level students participating in the Amazing Shake National Contest learned about the value of respecting one's self when decorated Military Veteran Ret. Lt. Col. Henry Fey CCCA ’56 visited our campus on November 30th. Having served multiple tours throughout his illustrious career, Lt. Col. Fey discussed with Angels the levels of dedication and discipline it takes to serve in our nation’s military. #iwacc

In celebration of Computer Sci

In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, Elementary Level fourth and fifth grade students in Mrs. Quintana’s STEAM classes programmed Ozobots on Monday, December 4th. An Ozobot is a tiny programmable robot that identifies lines, colors, and codes by scanning digital surfaces such as electronic tablets and computer screens. Using the Ozobot computer software, students coded their robots to navigate in different directions as well as flash different colored light patterns. #iwacc #wwcodingdcc

Middle Level students learned about the power of perception when CCPD Cpt. Patrick McMenamy spoke to students about poise and professionalism on November 27th in the Angel Avenue Student Center. McMenamy gave students advice on how to dress, act, and prepare for an interview as well as how to confidently interact with someone you are meeting with for the first time. Using Tinkercad, an online 3D design and printing app, Elementary Level fourth graders designed boats that were printed using 3D printers. After learning about properties of matter including mass, volume, density, and water buoyancy, the students put their designed boats to the test to find out whose boats could carry the most mass before sinking. #iwacc

Throughout the school year, we are committed to providing students and families with many college-planning resources. Middle Level students received a valuable lesson on poise and etiquette from Katherine Mason Young, vice president of JDW Cotillions and executive director of Executive Social Presentation, on Thursday, November 9th. A longtime instructor of professionalism and etiquette courses, Young discussed with students how they can develop their interpersonal skills, how to “own a room,” and the five elements that help make a person more presentable. While reading the novel “Wonder,” Elementary Level fifth graders have been introduced to the idea of “Mr. Browne’s Precepts,” a few general rules meant to remind students that their words and actions affect other people. Students participated in a class activity on Thursday, November 9th, where they implemented one of Mr. Browne’s wonderful qualities by creating individual “You Are A Wonder” posters and writing kind, inspiring compliments on each of their classmates' posters. #iwacc

The Middle Level houses banded

The Middle Level houses banded together for an assembly on Friday, November 3rd in the James R. Dougherty Jr., Center. During the assembly, students brainstormed the different types of fundraisers they could accomplish throughout the school year and presented over 1,000 Box Tops to High School Level campus minister Ashley Cartwright in support of the High School Level Mission Team. At the end of the assembly, Coach Patterson presented students with a brand new score table to be used in the James R. Dougherty Jr., Center for Middle Level sporting events. #iwacc

Elementary Level - Montessori

Elementary Level - Montessori students in Mrs. Quintana’s STEAM class were tasked with the challenge of mixing their own mortar out of clay, soil, and sand. The students determined their own material ratios with the goal to make mortar strong enough to build a wall of rocks. Their walls will be tested next week to determine what mixtures hold up the best against a miniature wrecking ball. #iwacc

In celebration of the Houston

In celebration of the Houston Astros' big win, fifth graders had some fun converting standard units of measurement into “Altuves,” based on the famous stature of the Astros' second baseman Jose Altuve. Students in Mr. Boostrom’s class created “Altuve” measuring sticks and measuring tapes to record the dimensions of the Elementary Level playground. Once the measurements were recorded, they were broken down into reduced fractions so Angels could figure out just how many “Altuves” it would take to circle around the playground. #iwacc
