Last night I was finally feeling inspired to peel off the cover and reconnect with "Sedna". I didn't have a name for this painting before last night, I began working on her about a year ago after dreaming of whalesong over and over again, feeling myself move through the ocean blue in whaleform, seeing through her eyes.
I worked on her for weeks last year, wanting to bring out and into the world what I was dreaming and feeling - .
Communication without words .
The language of the heart .
The spirit of the ocean .
Grandmother energy .
Inner sight .
Embracing the Unseen .
After weeks of pouring myself into her, I covered the three foot by four foot canvas in a Kwan Yin tapestry to protect the oil paint while I patiently waited to have time to work on her again. .
Last night I heard her calling again, singing for me in a language without words, and I lifted the tapestry and painted all night until the wee hours of the morning, content to be alone with the moonlight, the paint and my Grandmother Simone's energy (she loved oil painting). This morning I discovered that we are coming up on a watery new moon on Scorpio, which is almost exactly opposite a newly discovered planet - Sedna, named after the Goddess of the sea. Deliciously appropriate, and so my beautiful Grandmother whale revealed her name to me.
She's only about 2/3 complete at this point, the canvas is very large and I'm content to take my time with her, letting the muse come and sing softly to me as she wills it.
