The new Civic Type Rs trickling out into the wild here in Australia, a little behind the rest of the world. Our good friend Mario was kind enough to visit us with his freshly delivered championship white example, so we put it up on the hoist to see what interesting details lurked beneath. It's a great car to drive, even at moderate street speeds. The performance is deceptive as the car does everything so well with no fuss. We're working hard to fit one into the development budget!
Swipe to see some things we find interesting.
First up is the factory fitted brake duct with an air guide mounted to the knuckle to direct air into specially placed a cutout in the brake dust shield. Then the funky dual axis steering geometry to achieve much better scrub radius and steering axis inclination than is possible with a traditional McStrut, which of course has been done before by many other manufacturers, but the finish of the forged aluminium arms in the Type R is fantastic.
Lastly while we noticed that the brake discs are dimpled and cross drilled, style over performance perhaps, the holes have a gentle radius to reduce thermal stresses near the holes which will greatly reduce risk of cracking. Honda designed this thing to run trouble free laps straight out of the box.
