Happy Monday! -
After giving it a lot of thought, I’ve decided to retire this big guy. He’s been very uncomfortable when I’ve tried to ride him lately. Between having Wobblers, upward fixation of the patella, arthritis, and his age (he turns 27 January 1st!), I haven’t felt that riding him purely to keep him in shape is benefiting him anymore. He tolerated bareback and bridleless rides with me when the weather was warm and his old joints felt okay, so when the summer returns we may go on bareback hacks at a walk. But with his golden years come lots and lots of cookies, walks in-hand around the farm, and extra love! Now that I’m home for the winter, Luke will get consistent work and hopefully by springtime I’ll be taking him to his first schooling shows in preparation for an eventing career!
