COSTUMES: THE YELLOW DRESS
Another unusually gorgeous colour on Caitriona, the fabric showing through underneath the mustard is actually painted, not embroidered. “The embroidery department alone couldn’t produce enough of what we were going to need. A very talented textile artist had come to interview for a position... I took one look at her work and created a fabric-painting department. There were a lot of painted silks in the 18th century so we designed and painted amazing fabrics, combining screen-printing and hand painting. We made truly beautiful fabrics that I could never have afforded to purchase, even if I had known where to find them. They are completely unique fabrics that will only be on our show, for our characters, our story.” - Terry Dresbach
And did you know there wasn’t a zipper on site? To convey the sense of authenticity, every female for every character was laced tight into a corset for filming. Dedicated. Ouch.
