Salma, a mother of five, participates in Mercy Corps' farmer's field school in her community in rural Niger. Through the school, she is learning how to grow more crops and beat the chronic food shortages that strike her family every year.
Salma has seen firsthand how small improvements can lead to bigger harvests — and less time between meals.
“In the past we used a lot of space between one plant and another. Now we’re planting them closer together, and we’re getting a lot of good harvests,” she says. “It’s successful.”
So far we've helped over 15,000 farmers produce more food in Niger.
